The worst movies in history to debate: are they as bad as they told you?
It is a label that goes
beyond disgust to get into hate, insult and loss of time. The online
Film Affinity community, in which its users rate each movie they watch, was born
15 years ago and has gathered 620,000 moviegoers who have scored 150,000 movies
to record 130 million votes. But sometimes the numbers are not enough: these
are the 13 films that Film Affinity voters have most often included in the
infamous list of "The worst movies I've ever seen." What is this
cruelty? They deserve it?. We have asked afdah free movies critics from different Spanish
media to analyze them and score them. And they do not always coincide with the
amateur users.
1. 'Dragon
Ball: Evolution' (2009)
But what is this?
The expected adaptation that was said to be unadaptable in real image. They
were absolutely right.
What does the town
say? "All the magic, spectacularity, violence and emotion of the
original have been wildly replaced by a boring, childish and meaningless plot. Note:
1 out of 10.
What does the
criticism say? "There are movies that are so bad that they become
good, this is not the case, it is so bad that it folds in on itself and becomes
worse." The one who perpetrated it (the director) James Wong never saw a
chapter of the series original: Goku only looks like his hair on end.
2.'The Blair
Witch Project' (1999)
But what is this?
A fake documentary about three teenagers terrorized by a pissed-off witch. It
cost 60,000 dollars, it raised 250 million.
What does the town
say? "A mix between cinema Dogma , shows the very poor cultural level
of these three doing the prawn with a camera, who do not know how to interpret
a map" . Note: 2 out of 10
What does the
criticism say? "This film established a subgenre of terror that has
worked wonders for decades, one of the frames I have engraved in my mind
belongs at the end of this hellish journey: a man punished to face the wall for
all eternity with a witch we never got to see, how strong are the images
"(Javier P. Martín, from eCartelera).
3.'Almost
300' (2008)
But what is this?
Parody of '300' (Zack Snyder, 2007) with Kevin Sorbo (the TV Hercules) and Carmen
Electra.
What does the town
say? "With great regret and shame I have to confess that I saw this
truño, instead of dedicating my time to more entertaining questions such as
cleaning the filters of the kitchen extractor or queuing at the police station
to renew the identity card". (Kingo). Note: 1 out of 10
What does the
criticism say? The problem is not (only) its humor homophobic, sexist and
racist, is that it is not even funny. But the most abject of 'Almost 300' is
its own existence: there was no need to ridicule '300' because that already
gave her time to become a parody of herself with her slow cameras (at normal
speed it would last 15 minutes), her virility chusca and its precious violence.
The most expensive colony announcement ever filmed.
4.'Street
Fighter, the last battle' (1994)
But what is this?
Adaptation of the most famous fighting video game in history.
What does the town
say? "Why do Ryu and Ken become two scammers when they are the
protagonists of the videogame? And why do not they launch Ha Do Kens? What's
more, why none of the fighters performs almost any of the techniques that
appear in the video game How dare you tease us like this?
"What does the
criticism say? "The grotesque deformation of the personalities of the
fighters is annoying: Chun Li and Honda are now journalists. Kylie Minogue
debuted in the cinema with this film and never came back.
5.'Anaconda'
(1997)
But what is this?
A film with a giant anaconda that introduced us to Jennifer Lopez. That's the
only reason he deserves a 5.
What does the town
say? "All the topics of horror movies + reminiscences of 'Shark' +
lamentable script? + Plastic reptiles + digital reptiles + stupid situations +
even more stupid reactions + good aunts + good dudes + ugly uncle ..."
(Hector).
What does the
criticism say?
"The very idea of trying to repeat the success of
'Tiburon' with an anaconda is endearing, Luis Llosa, the director, wanted to
shoot an adventure movie where a huge reptile, made really good, tried to snack
on Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Ice Cube or Owen Wilson This superproduction
rests in the collective memory as a ridiculous B-series tape, but do not underestimate
it, if you did not set a canon in the cinema of 'a big monster eating people',
it did in the uncomfortable mood.
6.'Batman
and Robin' (1997)
But what is this?
Fourth installment of the saga inaugurated with the legendary phenomenon of pop
culture 'Batman' (Tim Burton, 1989). This time directed by Joel Schumacher.
What does the town
say? Stupid and childish, special
effects give more pain than 'Zombie Nation' (Billy), Note: 1 out of 10.
What does the
criticism say? Anything that is said against 'Batman and Robin' is true.
However, this ramshackle circus is entertaining, spectacular and very aware
that it is dynamiting the 'blockbuster' from within. 'Batman and Robin' is a
benign tumor that includes all the colors of the rainbow and others that did
not exist before it. Not suitable for those who take Batman seriously. It can
cause epilepsy.
7.'Catwoman'
(2004)
But what is this?
First and only solo movie of the villain Batman. Michelle Pfeiffer would not even
dare to call her, so the chosen one was Halle Berry fresh out of her Oscar.
What does the town
say? "One of the most pestilent, crappy, stupid and unnecessary movies
in the world, Pitof belongs to the rancid lineage of directors who, deep down,
hate the public". Note: 1 out of 10
What does the
criticism say? "The most exciting thing about this mess is the name of
its director: Pitof, visual effects that were pointers in 2004 but that seemed
taken from a cd-rom in 2005, dialogs worthy of a porn movie (and not even a
good porno, like shows the cheap plastic suit that Berry looks) and, what is
worse, zero self-awareness: if you hugged your wicked spirit (as the villain,
Sharon Stone, does) you could be nice, it's not, it's a movie that you do not
like "(Juan Sanguino, from ICON).
8.'Two silly
fools' (1994)
But what is this?
Directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly reinvented American comedy with a hysterical
adventure of two dumb colleagues. Very foolish
What does the town
say? "Long scenes, bad rhythm, dense and sovereignly stupid
humor." This animosity, which tells the adventures of two true
oligophrenics, is preferable to elude him (Elneon). Note: 3 out of 10
What does the
criticism say? The Farrelly brothers showed it in this jewel of funny love."
When everyone was looking for the refinement of comedy formulas, they bet on
going back to the simplest, to the fall, to the exaggeration and the windiness
as a mark of the house, one of the most absurd comedies of the last decades,
but also of those that most marked a generation that we knew their memory
scenes. Note: 6 out of 10
9.'Independence
Day' (1996)
But what is this?
The mammoth work that forged the modern 'blockbuster', in which the overdose of
digital effects justifies the very existence of the film.
What does the town
say? "It is a useless film, it has no reason to be, it does not
express anything, it is not touched by human hands". Note: 1 out of 10
What does the
criticism say?"The first commandment of the great Billy Wilder was:
'You will not be bored', 'Independence Day' will have its sins, but that is not
one of them, it is a disaster film with a devilish rhythm and special effects
that, 20 years later, continue to work because , in addition to adding
pyrotechnics to the plot, they cause the characters to explode from the inside,
although to the bomb, its incredible ending: Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, a
black and a Jew, saving the world by 'hacking' the Martians. pure to celebrate
it.
10.'Torrente
3, the protector' (2005)
But what is this?
The comedy with the smell of armpits, endearing social satire of an eloquent
author like Santiago Segura (protagonist and director), mutated in
superproduction for his third installment.
What does the town
say? "Overload of stellar cameos, non-existent history, formal
neglect, funny humor, joke at the expense of the World Trade Center attack and
a script designed in fifteen minutes." Note: 1 out of 10.
What does the
criticism say? "Segura did not know what to do with his character, so
in the third part he tried to pay homage to the 80s cinema, but he fell into
all the setbacks that already plagued the second part, here they directly sink:
Torrente is despicable, the narration it is incoherent and there is nothing
left of the ironic cultural discourse of the first.
11.'Waterworld'
(1995)
But what is this?
The commercial cinema trying to assimilate the dirty, crude and depressing
spirit of 'Mad Max' and polish it packaged for the masses.
What does the town
say? "Not only is Kevin Costner anti-charismatic but his character is
disgusting, he has a rather macho tone, and neither is a relationship between
Costner and the two women justified, and the bad guy can not be more
stereotyped". Note: 3 out of 10
What does the
criticism say? "It is difficult to get rid of the label of 'major
catastrophe of cinema' with which 'Waterworld' has gone down in history, a
monument to human ambition, waste and the lack of any kind of control over the
ego of an artist unleashed Yes, it is also grandiloquent and with ridiculous
pretenses of transcendence, but if we could abstract from everything that
surrounds it, we would find a post-apocalyptic film of worthy adventures,
entertaining, thoughtful and even with winks -involuntarily- as the Portuguese
language.
12.'Twilight'
(2008)
But what is this? Adapted from the romantic / gothic
bestseller Stephenie Meyer that paralyzed the world during the four years of
the saga. The longest of our lives.
What does the town
say? "If you have not read the book you can not quite understand why
the hell Bella acts like she acts and what she sees in Edward The rhythm of the
movie, with those sudden jumps from one scene to another, does not help either.
soul, without emotion and without content.
What does the
criticism say? "Surely we are facing a work with the same poetry as a
note of love thrown in the middle of an algebra class, but at the same time it
is an honest film. The puritanism of the virgin protagonist is in a continuous
struggle with the morbid I think that it is this dialectic between opposites
that explains its success and also what makes it a fascinating film.
13.'The
forest' (2004)
But what is this?
The trees (the trailer, which promised a 123freemovies of terror formulaic) did not let
many see the forest.
What does the town
say? "What do you have to do to be critical? It seems easy, you see a
few movies, and the ones that (I suppose) give you a commission, the ones that
do not, the ones that you do not. a masterpiece, it seems an insult to
intelligence "(Ken).
What does the
criticism say? "El Bosque" works as a legend and as a political
parable with the same delicacy with which it revises the American founding
myth, exposing the violence that crouches behind the protection of creeds,
fears and identities Its final trick proves that M Night Shyamalan (the
director ) is capable of converting his style book into a rubric, but, above
all, it is a pertinent gesture to the illusion of political arcadia and the
romantic melancholy of lost paradises, and it is also precious.
